Hand Picked - Foot Stomped
Established by Larry McKenna in 1999, the Escarpment Vineyard, was born out of a passion for Pinot Noir. The release of Kupe Pinot Noir in 2005 heralded the arrival of one of New Zealand’s finest and over the pursuing years Larry gained the title of Prince of Pinot for the reputation these wines gathered on the world stage.
In July 2019 Torbreck Vintners, from the Barossa Valley, acquired Escarpment and this new partnershpip has enabled the building of a state-of-the-art- winery.
While Larry has now retired from his position as founding wine maker, the story continues with new Winemaker Tim Bourne and viticulturist Rowan Hoskins. Based around 24 hectares of alluvial gravel terraces on the banks of the Huangarua River, the wines are a true reflection of both Martinborough’s unique terroir and the skills and experience of this team.
In 2019 Escarpment announced their vineyards as BioGrow Certified
